about the author

Daphne Worrall was born in November 1934. When the Second World War broke out Daphne wasn’t sent to be an evacuee, she enjoyed playing with her dog Trixie, drawing and reading in the Anderson shelter. When she was fifteen Daphne started work in a drawing office, to be a tracer. She married in 1955 and had three children. Organising flower festivals and a craft fair at her local church occupied the next few years. Then making pressed flower cards and writing poetry about her life and garden to leave to her family and grandchildren.

about the book

Daphne had always loved flowers, her garden and the countryside. She had a happy marriage and enjoyed bringing up her family of two boys and a girl. The family was never without a dog, who was one of the family. Daphne didn’t start writing poems until later in life, memories started flowing out of her. She would say, “One needs a long quiet time to develop talents, like drawing and writing.” Like those days she spent in the shelter during the War.
